The massage course will run over 8 weeks every Wednesday evening. The course will include theory and practical components but as a student in the field of human movement sciences it is assumed that you will have some anatomy and physiology experience and as such these sections will not be covered in detail in this course. The course comprises a theory and practical exam and case studies, all of which contribute to your final result. The course can be used for individual and group sports massage but is not available for use as rehabilitation unless the student is already qualified in rehabilitation, such as a biokineticist or physiotherapist. On successful completion of the course the student will be able to offer sports massage as a service to the sports person as well as to the healthy population. The student will be given a Certificate of Competency in Sports Massage. The student who has completed all the requirements for the course will not be able however, to register with the Allied Health Professionals Association, as the course itself is not conducted over a two year period, which is the minimum requirement to register as a 'therapeutic' sports massage therapist. Further study in sports massage will be necessary in order to register with HFPA. |
